Liverpool fans loving the trend of scoring late goals

Liverpool fans on Twitter have been reacting after stats were posted on social media that showed just how often the Reds have been scoring late goals.

This came after the Anfield outfit netted another couple of late goals against Aston Villa on Saturday to rescue three points.

Indeed, Sadio Mane put the Reds 2-1 up in stoppage time despite Jurgen Klopp’s outfit trailing just ten minutes earlier.

This strike shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone as the league leaders have been making a habit of scoring late on.

As you can see the Reds have scored in the last ten minutes in five of their last six games, and even the game against Spurs saw a 75th-minute winner courtesy of Mohamed Salah.

This is exactly the type of trait a top team needs in order to win the title, and Liverpool fans were quite happy to see this stat.

Here’s what the Anfield faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Wolves need to sign Franck Kessie to bring Ruben Neves back to his best

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Wolves face a trip to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon as they look to continue their unbeaten run of form in the Premier League.

Nuno Santo’s side can make it a fifth straight game without defeat at St James’ Park, although, it is really about time they started picking up more victories – no team in the top-flight has drawn more games (five) than the west Midlanders this season.

Wolves somewhat lack a cutting edge in attack, but it must be said that last time out against Southampton, they could have seen more goals fly in as Raul Jimenez had two attempts chalked off by VAR before he finally stuck the ball in the net from the penalty spot.

Only two players have scored two or more in the league, per WhoScored.

Goals need to be shared out amongst the team, and this is where their midfield has lacked this season, particularly with Ruben Neves, who appears to be playing a much deeper role for his fellow countryman.

On the Chalkboard

As highlighted earlier this week by Football FanCast, Neves is averaging an xG per 90 minutes of just 0.03 this campaign, per Understat.

This just isn’t good enough for a player that has previously bagged 11 goals in the last two seasons, helping the club to the Championship title and a Europa League place.

But it isn’t entirely his fault as Nuno is asking him to play deeper, maybe because they lack an out-and-out defensive midfield type of player.

Are Gareth Southgate’s Aston Villa roots the reason behind the Wolves player in the video below being overlooked?…

Birmingham Live claim the Portuguese boss wants to add a central midfielder in January, while La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Calciomercato, state that Wolves have already put in an offer for AC Milan’s Franck Kessie.

He would be the ideal man to bring in and help Neves as his presence would allow the 22-year-old to play further forward, where he can once again be a valuable attacking threat.

You only have to look at his strike against Manchester United to see what he could offer.

Last season in Serie A, Kessie displayed aspects of his game that would suit the role that Wolves are longing for – he averaged 1.2 tackles and 1.5 clearances per game while still being a threat in the final third having netted on seven occasions too, per WhoScored.

The 22-year-old, who is valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, would be the perfect accompaniment to a midfield trio that includes Neves and Joao Moutinho, and he would certainly help them get back on track in the heart of the pitch.

A titan in the middle of the pitch, he would certainly add a different dimension to Wolves – one which finally allows their dynamic Portuguese to thrive in the Premier League.

Birmingham fans issue rallying calls ahead of January transfer window

In the past on FFC we’ve spoken about the goalkeeping position at St Andrew’s a number of times before.

Whether it be about Lee Camp making mistakes, David Stockdale and his slump down the ladder or the possibility of Connal Trueman and Moha Ramos earning their keep, they seem to be figures of the squad that draw natural debate.

So when Birmingham Live posted a story in which they discussed the goalkeepers that Blues manager Pep Clotet could be tempted to go for in the January transfer window, it naturally grabbed our attention as well as a few Bluenoses.

However, it seems as if the article didn’t go down well with them, as many supporters were quite happy with the options they had at the club – that’s despite some of the clangers Camp has dropped this season.

They suggested they’d rather the club spend their money in other areas rather than the person who’s standing between the sticks each week.

Taking to Twitter, they gave their thoughts on the current situation that’s playing out regarding their ‘keepers, urging Clotet to stick with the dilemma he has, rather than invest in new faces.

There was one fan though who thought there should be some change at the club, although they could have used some slightly nicer words.

Arsenal fans left feeling bittersweet about Serge Gnabry

Former Arsenal attacker Serge Gnabry hit the headlines once more as his goal and assist helped Germany to a 2-2 draw against Argentina at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.Gnabry, 24, got himself on the scoresheet and played in fellow countryman Kai Havertz to add to Die Mannschaft’s lead in the first half, only for Lucas Alario and Lucas Ocampos to level proceedings in the second period. The former Gunners’ youth prospect was at the Emirates for five seasons and only played 18 times for the first team, scoring one goal and conjuring up two assists.Gnabry has gone on to become a key asset in Niko Kovac’s Bayern Munich side and scored four past Arsenal’s arch-rivals Tottenham in the Champions League last month as the German side ran out 7-2 winners.

Arsenal supporters were left feeling nostalgic and sad after witnessing the player that Gnabry has become, with some believing that he should not have been allowed to leave the club.

Liverpool fans admit that they are club over country during international break

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans on Twitter have admitted that they are strictly club over country during the current international break.

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Gough told those who’d prefer to see their club win a title over their country winning a major tournament to ‘hang their head in shame’ whilst speaking on air, which prompted a raft of responses from Liverpool fans on Twitter who are clearly more invested in the Reds than the Three Lions.

One supporter said that he’d happily hang his head in shame given his love for Jurgen Klopp’s side, whilst another tweeted that he’d rather see the Merseysiders win a throw-in during a pre-season tournament.

It is quite a brave admission to make from these Reds supporters given the significance of seeing England win a World Cup or the European Championships, something which the national team have only managed once in footballing history.

Let’s take a look at some more of the Twitter reaction…

Transfer Focus: Denzel Dumfries needed if Solskjaer wants attack-minded full-backs

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United are interested in signing PSV full-back Denzel Dumfries this summer, as reported by The Sun.

What’s the story?

Ashley Young, for all his experience and commitment, was an obvious weak point in the Man United team last season and right-back is one of the positions that clearly needs strengthened by the club this summer.

The paper say that Denzel Dumfries has had strong recommendations from Old Trafford scouts and could be available for as little as £25m, which compared to other targets like Thomas Meunier and Aaron Wan-Bissaka makes him something of a bargain.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyeing young talents he can help develop at Old Trafford, the 23-year-old ticks plenty of boxes.

Could Harry Maguire be on his way to Old Trafford? Check out the video below to see why it would make so much sense…

What would he offer United?

Dumfries may still be young but he’s been a regular in the Dutch top-flight for three years now so has good experience under his belt, showing classy enough form to win five caps as part of the Netherlands’ exciting young international side.

Strong in the air as well as carrying the ball forward, he’s something of an all-rounder who should provide defensive stability and also look to impact the game in the opposition’s third.

Last season he scored four goals and assisted seven times for PSV, demonstrating he has an attacking ambition that could make him a very exciting outlet on the right flank for United.

With Solskjaer’s side likely dominating possession in most of their matches next term, Dumfries should have the space to show off his skills.

If the United manager is looking to utilise attacking full-backs next season then the prospect is definitely worth looking at, with the player still young enough to iron out any weaknesses in his game.

For the reported £25m, he could just provide what the Norwegian is looking for at a reasonable price.

Aston Villa fans demand the signing of Mings

[ad_pod ]

Aston Villa supporters may have just been dealt their biggest setback yet in their hopes of landing Tyrone Mings on a permanent deal.

The Sun claim that Villa are refusing to overpay for the 6 ft 5 defender as they eye up a move for Adam Webster.

Mings is rated at £4.5m per Transfermarkt but it’s likely a larger bid will have to be submitted in order to lure him away from Bournemouth. Danny Mills claimed last month that they may have to pay over £10m more than that.

Taking to Twitter after seeing the news, a host of Villa fans demanded that the club pay what’s required to bring him back to the club.

One supporter claimed that now was not the time to tighten the purse strings whilst another suggested discussions could go on until the final day of the window.

A further fan said that Mings would be worth every penny whilst one tweet said they wanted him back where he belongs.

The 26-year-old was a force for Villa last term after arriving on loan in January. Playing 18 times, he was instrumental in helping the club to achieve ten wins on the bounce and subsequently a play-off final victory at Wembley.
