Quiz: Which famous celebrities support Crystal Palace?

Crystal Palace won back their place in the top flight of English football in 2013 after eight long seasons in the Championship.

In the near-decade since, Palace have established themselves as a solid, mid-table Premier League side under the likes of Tony Pulis, Alan Pardew, Sam Allardyce, Roy Hodgson and Patrick Vieira.

Only once have they dropped below 14th place in the end-of-season table, but a top-half finish has eluded them since 2014/15, when they finished 10th.

Palace fans will be hoping that Vieira, the current boss, can deliver the club’s first major trophy in the coming years.

They have twice been runners-up in the FA Cup, most recently in 2015/16, when they lost to Manchester United.

Last year, Vieira showed their potential as a cup side by leading them to the semifinals, before they fell to Chelsea.

The South London-based club can count a whole host of celebrities among their fanbase, and in this quiz, it’s your job to sort the true Eagles from the pretenders.

Newcastle set for Bruno Guimaraes boost

An update has emerged on Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and his injury situation ahead of the club’s return to Premier League action.

What’s the latest?

Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope has claimed that the Brazil international is excepted to be available for selection against AFC Bournemouth today.

He tweeted:

“Expectation is that ASM & Wilson miss out, but Bruno likely to return #nufc.”

Magpies boss Eddie Howe, however, refused to give too much away as he left everyone in the dark over the club’s injury situation, saying:

“Everyone has improved but I’ll leave my team-news until the time we get it. It’s been a slightly difficult period for us but hopefully we’re coming out of that. They’re big players for us and we need them back quickly.”

Delight for Howe

The Magpies head coach should be delighted by Hope’s claim that Guimaraes is set for a comeback this weekend as his return would be a huge boost to the team.

He has not stepped foot on the pitch in the Premier League since the 3-3 draw with Manchester City, due to suffering an injury in the 2-1 win over Tranmere in the EFL Cup last month, and Newcastle have failed to win any of the three subsequent matches – scoring just twice in that time.

A 2-1 loss to Liverpool was sandwiched by draws with Wolves – 1-1 – and Crystal Palace – 0-0 – and the Magpies will now hope that Guimaraes return will lead to their second win in the league this season, as they face Bournemouth at St. James’ Park.

The Brazilian started the campaign in fine form. He averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.13 across the first three games, creating 1.3 chances and making 4.3 tackles and interceptions per outing in the top-flight. This shows that he has the quality to make an impact at both ends of the pitch, as he can open up opposition defences with his passing whilst providing a screen in front of the back four to keep teams out in his own third.

He also has the potential to be a match-winner with his ability to score goals. Guimaraes scored five times in 11 starts for Newcastle in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, after joining from Lyon in January, and this suggests that the quality is there for him to be a difference-maker at this level.

Therefore, Howe should be delighted with his potential return as it would be a big lift for the team with what he can offer offensively and defensively in the middle of the park.

Fulham make Kurzawa deal ‘priority’

Fulham have made Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa their ‘priority target’ this summer, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Fulham open Kurzawa negotiations

The Frenchman has two years remaining on his deal at the Parc des Princes, but has reportedly been told that he is free to leave in the coming weeks after falling out of favour since the arrival of new manager Christophe Galtier.

The Daily Mail credited the Cottagers with an interest in the 29-year-old on Tuesday, stating that Marco Silva’s side are in talks regarding a potential move, and it appears that they are serious about bringing him to the Premier League.

The Latest: Fulham make Kurzawa ‘priority’

Taking to Twitter, Romano revealed that both Fulham and Silva are ‘keen’ on completing the signing of Kurzawa, with discussions for Justin Kluivert also developing.

“Fulham want to sign Layvin Kurzawa as priority target as new left back. Marco Silva also keen on signing the French LB from PSG.

“Negotiations progressing also on Justin Kluivert deal with AS Roma.”

The Verdict: Cover needed

Joe Bryan fractured his hand prior to the start of the new season, leaving Antonee Robinson as the only senior player available in that left-back position, so Fulham have got to prioritise this deal for Kurzawa.

The 13-cap international, who once dubbed himself ‘crazy’, has provided 23 assists and netted 14 goals during his spell at PSG, via Transfermarkt, showing that he is more than capable of turning it on when given the chance to perform.

The Cottagers are unbeaten so far this top-flight campaign having one won and drawn two, and these impressive results and encouraging signs could play a huge role in Kurzawa deciding where his next destination will be.

Southampton in for Callum Hudson-Odoi

Pete O’Rourke has issued a transfer update on a potential Southampton target…

What’s the word?

Speaking to This is Futbol, he referenced Callum Hudson-Odoi as someone who could come into the St Mary’s Stadium and have an instant impact.

He claimed: “There’s been a bit of a change at Southampton this year, going down the younger route of signing younger players, in which Hudson-Odoi also fits that bill as well.

“But yeah, on his day Hudson-Odoi is a top attacking player in the Premier League, so if Southampton were to get him, I’m sure they’ll have to beat off a host of clubs to get him, and again it would be a real signing of intent from Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team.”

Fabrizio Romano had previously suggested that Southampton were seeking to sign the youngster on loan.

Imagine him and Aribo

Southampton boast a fine record of developing young talent into world-class stars, and some of their former players have risen to the very top of the game including the likes of Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott. Therefore, the potential to craft Hudson-Odoi into something similar would, as O’Rourke alludes to, be a real statement of intent.

Bringing in the tricky 21-year-old from Chelsea could benefit both club and player too, as Hudson-Odoi could finally be given some much-needed game time as Hasenhuttl will benefit from gaining a wonderful talent.

He could link up well with another summer signing Joe Aribo, bought for £10m, who has started his career at the club well with his first goal off the bench against Leeds United.

Last season for Rangers the Nigerian scored eight and assisted a further six from midfield, and his keen eye for a pass could see Hudson-Odoi profit.

The £120k-per-week English winger ranked in the top 5% for progressive carries per 90, and he could drive his side further up the pitch and create chances for any attackers or even for late arrivals into the box like Aribo.

Both of these players could quickly form a symbiotic relationship and adding on his shot-creating actions, of which he also ranks in the top 8%, this theory is further supported.

The winger was once dubbed “something special” by Liam Canning and perhaps he could finally realise his potential with a move to the south coast and in turn boost Hasenhuttl’s squad tenfold.

The partnership he could form with Aribo could be integral in keeping the Saints well clear of a relegation battle and as a result, would surely send out a strong signal of intent to the rest of the teams in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Leeds: Orta still plotting more signings

Journalist Ben Jacobs has provided an update on Leeds United’s potential transfer activity…

What’s the word?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the CBS reporter has claimed that sporting director Victor Orta is still seeking further additions to add to Jesse Marsch’s current squad, despite the Premier League outfit having already brought in six new signings so far this summer.

He stated: A back-up keeper, even with Kristoffer Klaesson still at the club, and perhaps a left-back could potentially be added later in the window.

“Jesse Marsch will assess during pre-season first. Junior Firpo is the only senior left-back at the club, so it would certainly make sense to bring in cover.”

That need for a new left-back, in particular, has been heightened by an injury to that man Firpo in recent days, with the 25-year-old set to be out for around eight weeks having suffered a knock in the pre-season friendly clash with Blackpool.

Supporters will be buzzing

That news of potential further transfer activity will no doubt be warmly received by the Elland Road faithful, with supporters likely to be keen to see even more business carried out between now and the end of the window, in order to improve upon last season’s disappointing display.

After a fine 2020/21 campaign back in the top-flight after a 16-year absence, the Yorkshire side were a victim of the cliched second-season syndrome last term, narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day at the end of a gruelling campaign that saw legendary manager Marcelo Bielsa get the axe.

With former RB Leipzig boss Jesse Marsch now at the helm, the 48-year-old will no doubt be keen to put his own stamp on the squad, hence the desire for significant investment in the current window.

The departures of two talismanic figures in Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha to Manchester City and Barcelona, respectively, has also heightened the need for further additions, with the squad having already appeared somewhat threadbare prior to those high-profile exits.

It will no doubt be a nervous wait for supporters to see how the club will cope in their absence next season, although this latest report that new faces are in the offing will seemingly help to raise excitement levels.

Leeds: Orta makes Tymon contact

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Josh Tymon to Elland Road in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Football Insider, who claim a source has revealed that, following reports of Glasgow Rangers’ interest in a move for the Stoke City left-back this summer, both Leeds and Norwich City have now joined the race for the 23-year-old’s signature.

It is suggested that both the Premier League and Championship side have informed the Potters of their interest in the former England U20 international, while it is also claimed that Michael O’Neill would be willing to sanction the defender’s sale this summer – as long as he is to receive an offer in the region of £6m.

“An outstanding young talent”

Considering just how exciting a prospect Tymon undoubtedly is, the news that Leeds now look to have been given the green light to make a move for the full-back is undoubtedly fantastic for everyone involved with the club.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, the £1.62m-rated talent highly impressed over his 44 Championship appearances last season, scoring one goal, registering four assists and creating a whopping 14 big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 1.2 key passes, taking 0.7 shots and completing 1.1 dribbles per game.

The £7.1k-per-week defender who Steve Bruce dubbed “an outstanding young talent” also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making an average of 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 25.7 passes, 1.3 long balls and winning 3.7 duels per fixture.

As such, with left-back having been something of a problem position for Jesse Marsch last season – with Junior Firpo struggling to adapt to the pace of Premier League football – the signing of a new player in the position would appear to be an extremely wise move for Victor Orta to make this summer.

And, considering just how exciting a prospect Tymon appears to be, £6m could very quickly look to be an absolute bargain for the Whites.

Sunderland prepare mega offer for Stewart

Championship returnees Sunderland are preparing to launch a mega contract offer in order to convince their talisman to remain at the Stadium of Light.

What’s the word?

That is according to a report from Daily Record, who claimed that the Black Cats are ready to offer star striker Ross Stewart more money in a bid to fend off interest from last season’s Europa League finalists Rangers.

As per the report, the Wearsiders’ 2021/22 top scorer already pocketed an automatic pay rise after playing a vital role in their promotion bid.

The outlet has now claimed that Sunderland want to “table a further improvement” in the form of an extended deal, and the club plan to kickstart further talks when Stewart is back from his summer break.

Neil will be buzzing

Quite simply, securing the future of a player who has just come off the back of a 26-goal campaign would be as good as, if not better than, securing the services of a new signing.

It’s a terrific statement of intent from the Black Cats and an ultimately important move for the club as they preparing for a dogfight next term. Stewart’s presence up top will surely make life easier for manager Alex Neil, with the forward possessing the ideal profile for Championship football.

The 25-year-old was so integral to Sunderland’s promotion season that, if he had not featured, they would go from League One’s third-highest scorers with 79 scored (just three behind both Oxford and Wigan, the joint-most prolific teams with 82 goals) to the eighth-lowest scorers with just 56 goals.

Ensuring Stewart’s commitment to the club is integral for the upcoming campaign, and as such, Neil will be buzzing with the efforts being made by Kristjaan Speakman and co to keep the Scotland international at the Stadium of Light.

Tottenham: Palmeri shares major transfer news for supporters

Journalist Tancredi Palmeri of Sport Italia has now shared some major transfer news out of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown: Spurs set for busy summer…

Antonio Conte seems set for a busy summer after guiding the Lilywhites to a top-four Premier League finish and Champions League qualification, subsequently earning Spurs a £150 million equity increase via owners ENIC.

The north Londoners have also confirmed two new arrivals already with both Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster arriving on Bosman deals ahead of what will be a huge 2022/2023 campaign.

More signings are in the pipeline for Conte as club chief Fabio Paratici takes to the market, aiming to give the Tottenham manager full backing and to orchestrate major deals.

The Latest: Palmeria shares major update…

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Now, as per Sport Italia reporter Palmeri, there has been a big update on Spurs’ striker plans.

As shared by the journalist on Twitter, Bayern Munich have made contact to sign star forward Harry Kane and Spurs are ‘thinking to replace him’ with Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.

He explained:

“BOOM! Bayern have contacted Tottenham for Harry Kane! And Tottenham are thinking to replace him with Lautaro from Inter according to SportItalia!”

The Verdict: Significant update?

While we believe this move is unlikely to occur given Kane’s importance to Spurs and Conte, it could show the dramatic nature of the window and how this summer may well come up with a fair few twists and turns.

Bayern would have to offer a substantial sum to prise the 28-year-old away from Hotspur Way and it is debatable whether Martinez could fill Kane’s boosts.

The Argentine did rack up 21 goals over last campaign and has previously dazzled for Conte at Inter, yet it’s possible Spurs could sign him without letting Kane go given the Serie A side’s need to sell.

Newcastle to make Dean Henderson bid

Newcastle United are reportedly preparing a bid to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson during the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to the Northern Echo, the Magpies are confident of securing a deal to sign the England international in the coming weeks.

The report claims that the club are set to make an offer of £15m and believe that it will be enough to wrap up a transfer upon the opening of the window next week.

Henderson is said to have decided that he needs to leave Old Trafford to further his career and Newcastle are looking to pounce on the opportunity to sign him.

It is also stated that the Toon are not looking to cash in on current stopper Martin Dubravka as he is set to provide competition for the jersey next season.

Eddie Howe would love him

The Magpies’ head coach would love him at St. James’ Park as he is a young shot-stopper with the potential to improve in the years to come.

Henderson is eight years younger than Dubravka and this means that he can be the long-term replacement for the Slovakian on Tyneside. He is still very young in goalkeeping terms and has the scope to be Newcastle’s first choice for a large number of years.

The 25-year-old is also a proven Premier League performer who will not need a period of adaptation to adjust to playing in England. He has played in two top-flight campaigns for Sheffield United and Manchester United combined and kept an impressive 17 clean sheets in that time – averaging an excellent SofaScore rating of 6.94.

Toon legend Alan Shearer previously lauded the shot-stopper as he named him in his 2020/21 Team of the Season. He said: “It was tough to leave out Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, but Sheffield United’s season has been one of the best stories of the campaign and Henderson has been key to their success.

“The Manchester United loanee has kept 10 clean sheets and his bravery and confidence beyond his 23 years. He is a star in the making.”

The Premier League’s all-time top scorer believes that the Englishman has huge potential and that is why this is an exciting target for Newcastle to have. Howe will love to work with him to help the gem fulfil his potential and, hopefully, become the club’s number one for the foreseeable future.
