Arsenal: Arteta Could Still Sign £199k-p/w "Difference-Maker" To Rival City

Arsenal could still be in the market for reinforcements this summer, with news in Spain giving an intriguing update on a reported target for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have worked hard this transfer window, obtaining the signatures of Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and David Raya, in four signings that bolster the spine of the squad.

While the activity has been applauded, there could be room for more additions, especially following the damning injury to Timber in the opening day of the season that is suspected to keep him away from the action for the foreseeable future.

It’s not only the defence that has been struck by injury, with striker Gabriel Jesus also out of contention while he nurses a knee injury, making the remainder of the transfer window an interesting prospect for those at the Emirates.

Who could Arsenal sign this summer?

The Gunners have been linked to an abundance of talent throughout the summer window, as expected following their league title challenging campaign last term.

One name that has appeared in recent reports is Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati, who could leave his boyhood club this window due to ongoing financial pressures.

As initially reported by Spanish outlet Sport, Arsenal were listed as significant admirers of the 20-year-old, claiming that the north Londoners had made a ‘very tempting offer’ to sign the winger.

This week, an update from Radio Barca was relayed by Twitter figure Eduardo Hagn, stating that people should “not rule out” the Gunners making a move for the Spaniard.

How good is Ansu Fati?

Once lauded as being the “difference-maker” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, there were high hopes for Ansu Fati to succeed Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou, with the Spaniard even adorning the number 10.

After a rapid rise to fame from the infamous La Masia set-up to the first team, the 20-year-old has found himself slipping down the pecking order in Catalonia due to injury and the rise in form of those around him.

While the young star’s potential exit from Barcelona is a painful idea for many, it could be the perfect acquisition for Arteta, who could grasp a player with innate ability and his best years ahead of him.

Described as a talent that would “fit Arsenal stylistically” by journalist Ryan Taylor via GIVEMESPORT, the versatile forward could well be the difference between the Gunners challenging for the top four and competing for the title once again this campaign.

ansu-fati-transfer-gossip-barcelona-arsenal-edu-arteta-alexis-sanchez

Speaking to Sky Sports, pundit and former Arsenal forward Paul Merson slashed Arteta’s squad’s title hopes should they fail to identify more big names this summer, with him focusing on Eddie Nketiah.

Merson said that despite the 24-year-old being reliable when called upon, he isn’t the forward that could be “firing Arsenal to the title”, adding that if the club fail to perform as they did last term, “they won’t even be in the top four”.

While his statements are damning, the club could prove critics wrong in signing a player as lavish as Ansu Fati, who has proved to be an exciting talent playing among some of the world's best.

Likened statistically to Arsenal’s own Gabriel Martinelli by FBref, the explosive £199k-per-week forward could be that added bit of quality to close the gap between the Gunners and Manchester City.

Last season, the north Londoners' market moves proved pivotal to their success in obtaining the likes of Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, suggesting that on top of the talent already secured this summer, further quality additions could well pave the way to the club’s first Premier League title since 2004.

Burnley Can Sign Dream £13k-p/w Amdouni Partner

Burnley clearly mean business on their return to the Premier League, having already made seven signings since earning promotion from the Championship.

Who have Burnley signed?

The Clarets were quick to turn Jordan Beyer and Michael Obafemi's loan deals into permanent signings, while Dara O'Shea, Zeki Amdouni, James Trafford, Nathan Redmond and Luca Koleosho have all joined this month.

Burnley do not appear to be finished there, though, as Vincent Kompany is said to be after another forward player, and that could see the Lancashire outfit turn to one of their promotion heroes.

Nathan Tella is back at Southampton after scoring 17 goals and assisting five more in 39 league appearances for Burnley last season, and the Clarets understandably want him to return to Turf Moor permanently.

According to The Sun's Alan Nixon, Kompany's side have been unsuccessful with a £9m offer, but they are expected to return with an improved bid for the 24-year-old.

Is Nathan Tella a good player?

Burnley supporters need no telling of Tella's quality, as the Englishman's 22 direct goal involvements last season were the most of any player at the club. In fact, the next-best performer was Josh Brownhill with 'only' 15.

It is therefore obvious why Kompany wants a player of that quality in his ranks, and it could well be a deal that helps get the most out of new signing Amdouni.

The Switzerland international has effectively been signed as Tella's replacement, but there is no reason why the two cannot play together if Burnley can reach an agreement with Southampton.

Amdouni finished joint-top scorer in the Europa Conference League last season with seven goals for Basel, level with Fiorentina's Arthur Cabral.

Whereas Tella – on wages of £13k-a-week at St Mary's, according to Capology – was used most often out on the right last season, as per WhoScored, Amdouni is more of an out-and-out centre-forward.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany.

The 22-year-old is an attacker who is able to fulfil his defensive duties, ranked as he is in the top 2% of forwards for tackles per 90 minutes (1.54) across the Swiss Super League and the eight leagues most similar to it, as per FBref.

Amdouni is also in the top 10% for interceptions per 90 (0.41) and the best 1% for blocks (1.95), further highlighting his ability to get stuck in and lead from the top.

As talented as Tella is, those are not areas he particularly thrives in. Using the same metrics across the Championship and the eight leagues most similar to it, the Arsenal academy product is in the bottom 18% for tackles (0.83) and the bottom 30% for interceptions (0.36).

That suggests the pair can complement each other, further backed up by the fact that Tella is more than happy to play a support role in attack – he averaged 2.24 crosses per 90 minutes last season, which was near enough on a par with attacking full-back Ian Maatsen (2.30).

Tella is not quite yet the finished product – Kompany himself described him as a "raw diamond" earlier this year – but he has shown what he is capable of in a Burnley shirt and would no doubt help to get the most out of Amdouni & Co. should he return.

Mahmudullah, Mominul left out of Test squad; Nasir returns

Shafiul Islam has also found a spot in Bangladesh’s 14-man squad for the Test series beginning on August 27

Isam: Questions over Mominul’s omission

Bangladesh have recalled allrounder Nasir Hossain, who last played a Test in August 2015, and medium-pacer Shafiul Islam, who last played in October 2016, for the first Test against Australia in Mirpur from August 27.Squad changes

In: Shafiul Islam, Nasir Hossain

Out: Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Subhasis Roy and Rubel Hossain

Mominul Haque was dropped from the squad for the first time since his debut in March 2013, alongside senior batsman Mahmudullah, who was dropped after the first Test in Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. Imrul Kayes, who batted at No. 3 as a replacement for Mominul in the second Test in Sri Lanka, was retained in the 14-man squad. After the end of the Sri Lanka tour, Mahmudullah scored a match-winning hundred against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy and helped Bangladesh reach the semi-final, but his return to the Test squad based on ODI form had been unlikely.Mominul was the subject of a number of questions during the press conference in Mirpur on Saturday. Chief selector Minhajul Abedin and coach Chandika Hathurusingha, who is also part of the selection committee, maintained that they didn’t want to change the winning combination from the Colombo Test in March. Mominul’s form in the last two Tests was given as a reason too.”Mominul made just one fifty in the last six innings,” Abedin said. “He was dropped because of his form. Imrul and Soumya are ahead of them. Soumya has four fifties in the last eight innings during this period, averaging 45.75. So that’s why Mominul went below in our consideration. He is our first choice among those not in the team. It is not the end of his career because he is dropped for the first Test.”Mominul is not unlucky because based on current form, others are ahead of him. There’s less pressure playing in away Test than a home game, so we didn’t take that into account.”Nasir last played against South Africa in 2015 while Shafiul played the Chittagong Test in October last year. The pair impressed in domestic limited-overs tournaments last season, as well as practice matches in the ongoing training camp in Dhaka and Chittagong. Nasir did well in the National Cricket League, averaging 109.33 in four innings, but in the Bangladesh Cricket League, he averaged just 30.87 in eight innings. Shafiul took 11 wickets in three matches in this season’s BCL.Hathurusingha informed that Nasir was picked as a like-for-like back-up for Mosaddek Hossain, who is suffering from an eye infection.Squad for the first Test: Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Mustafizur Rahman, Taijul Islam, Mehedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Mosaddek Hossain, Nasir Hossain, Shafiul Islam.BCB XI for 2-day practice match against Australians: Mahmudullah (capt), Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Liton Das, Mominul Haque, Nasir Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Irfan Sukkur, Mohammad Saifuddin, Subashis Roy, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Tanbir Hayder, Jubair Hossain, Abul Hasan

Tottenham: Spurs Readying Bid For "Fundamental" Star

Tottenham Hotspur will make an offer for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba and he wants the move, according to reports out of Germany.

Who will Spurs sign?

New Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy have been hard at work behind-the-scenes, as they attempt to prepare for next season.

The Lilywhites' start to this summer transfer window has been a solid one with Spurs supporters seeing goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, playmaker James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon join the club over these last few weeks.

Dejan Kulusevski, after 18 months on loan from Juventus, has also joined former Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro in making his move to north London permanent.

Spurs have now shored up a variety of positions in their squad, both defensively and further forward, but it is believed they're attempting to add two new centre-backs to their roster as well.

Tottenham conceded a woeful 63 league goals last season, more than any other English side above 15th last season, and those numbers highlight a glaring weakness that Postecoglou must resolve.

They're apparently moving to fix this achilles heel, with advanced talks held for Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven as a deal closes in (Fabrizio Romano).

However, the Netherlands international is just one defender Tottenham have their eyes on, with Galatasary star Victor Nelsson, Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo, Barcelona's Clement Lenglet and Tapsoba all being targeted too.

Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba.

The latter defender has been repeatedly linked with a move to N17 recently, alongside van de Ven, with a report from Europe sharing an update on their pursuit.

According to the paper edition of German news outlet Sport Bild, as shared by Sport Witness, Spurs will make an offer for Tapsoba – amounting to around £34 million.

Leverkusen, who are keen to keep their star defender, hope that bid won't come but Tottenham are apparently ready to make that bid.

Tapsoba is said to be eager on making the move to England, and while Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes doesn't want to let the African go, he may well be forced to do so given the amount of money Tottenham could put forward.

How good is Edmond Tapsoba?

The Burkina Faso international isn't just impressive at club level, with members of the media even calling him "fundamental" for his country in recent seasons.

"Edmond Tapsoba is the de facto organiser for Burkina Faso," said journalist Bruno Alemany last year.

"He is the one who imposes the rhythm of his team and the one who puts it to play in the rival field. Personality and displacement top. Fundamental."

Meanwhile, the Bundesliga's official website have even likened Tapsoba to former Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng for his composure and acute passing.

The site wrote:

"The legendary Bayern Munich defender, who made 364 appearances across 11 seasons for the Bavarian giants, was as cool and calm as it gets both on the ball and in the tackle while he was also famed for his pinpoint long passing that set up many an attack for the record champions. Tapsoba has similar traits and such is his eagerness to start forward thrusts, he has often been referred to as a defensive playmaker."

Man Utd Could Sign Martinez’s Dream Partner In £51m ‘Animal’

Manchester United are considering competing with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Juventus centre-half Gleison Bremer this summer.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have both been signed over the past several years to fortify the strength of the Red Devils' backline, and while progress has been made in this regard, manager Erik ten Hag will be looking to strengthen further after reclaiming a place in the Champions League with a top-four finish.

Winning the Carabao Cup and returning to European competition's pinnacle is undoubtedly a successful starting point, but United still finished 14 points off divisional champions Manchester City, having shipped ten more goals (43) than their city rivals and top four peers Newcastle United (33).

So, Bremer could offer a solution, a formula to provide succour and strength to a defensive regiment in tantalising yearly increments, and according to reports, could join the fold for around £51m if United win the battle for his signature after the Old Lady's financial jeopardy thrust them cheerlessly into the Europa Conference League with a ten-point deduction.

How would Gleison Bremer perform at Manchester United?

While Juventus technically finished seventh in Serie A this season, the Turin side's points punishment swiped away their fourth-place in the division – level on points with Inter Milan in third – which would have retained their Champions League spot.

And with just 33 goals conceded all term, only Napoli and Lazio in first and second place could better the steely backline, in which Bremer certainly played a definitive role.

As per Sofascore, the three-cap Brazil international recorded an average rating of 7.11 in the league last season, playing 30 matches, scoring four goals, completing 90% of his passes, averaging 3.8 clearances per game and winning 61% of his aerial battles.

Also keeping 12 clean sheets for his prestigious outfit, it's no wonder that the "unbelievable" – as hailed by journalist Ryan Taylor – titan is attracting attention from aspiring Premier League sides.

His all-encompassing work would gel very nicely with that of Martinez, who has cemented a regular starting berth at the Theatre of Dreams after his £57m move from Ajax one year ago.

lisandro-martinez-manchester-united

Dubbed "an absolute warrior" by journalist Jon Dunham, the Argentine has swiftly emerged as a fan favourite for his no-nonsense defending and unflinching commitment to rebuffing danger.

As per FBref, the Argentinian menace ranks among the top 6% of centre-backs across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for tackles, the top 5% for interceptions and the top 11% for successful take-ons per 90, underscoring his tenacity and paramount importance to Ten Hag's side.

Bremer, comparatively, brings a forward-thinking approach to complement the ferocious ubiquity of Martinez's defensive duties, with the £153k-per-week Juve star ranking among the top 8% for goals, the top 5% for touches in the attacking box and the top 19% for aerials won per 90.

Bremer is an "animal" of a colossus – as remarked by Torino’s Mergim Vojvod – and must be brought to Old Trafford to provide Martinez with the perfect partner and craft a whole new sense of dynamism to ensure Manchester United close the distance to the very forefront of the Premier League pack.

Fulham: Silva interested in £10m dynamo with "huge potential"

Fulham are reportedly interested in exciting right-back Max Aarons, per reports.

Fulham transfer news – What's the latest on Max Aarons?

According to the Telegraph, the Cottagers are 'weighing up' a potential move for the Norwich City full-back to increase the competition at right-back in Marco Silva's team.

Dutchman Kenny Tete has primarily filled the position this season, with loanee Cedric Soares failing to impress and heading back to parent club Arsenal this summer.

According to the publication, the west London club are considering a tempting offer in the region of £10m for the fullback.

The youngster is into the final 12 months of his £22.5k-per-week deal, so a transfer is highly likely in the summer.

Norwich City's Max Aarons in action.

Would the arrival of Max Aarons spell the end for Kenny Tete?

Aarons has been a player subject to a lot of hype ever since his Premier League debut back in the 2019/20 season, so a move to Fulham might surprise many and probably spell the end of Kenny Tete's starting berth at Craven Cottage.

To compare the two players, it makes the most sense to look at the Fulham man's most recent season and Aarons' 2021/22 season, as that was his last year in the Premier League.

In doing that, the picture becomes much less bleak for the 27-year-old, as the comparison between the players is far closer than many might first assume.

kenny-tete-liverpool-transfer-james-milner-premier-league

In an attacking sense, the players are very close.

According to FBref, Tete averaged 0.07 expected assists per 90, whilst Aarons 0.05.

In contrast, though, it's the Norwich dynamo with the slight edge for progressive passes, having averaged 3.66 per 90 to the Amsterdam-born players' 3.61.

One area the tricky Canaries full-back is clear of the competition is the progressive distance he carries the ball, having averaged a seriously impressive 105.5 yards per 90, compared to Tete's 84.2 yards per 90.

The pass completion is also better for the Hammersmith-born gem, at 75% compared to just 72% for the Dutchman.

However, whilst it is difficult to clearly separate the players from their last seasons in the Premier League, it's important to note that Fulham were a significantly better collective than Norwich City, thus providing a more stable platform.

There are also the players' ages and potential upside to consider.

Aarons is still just 23, whereas the former Lyon man is 27, just four months off being 28.

Many in the game hold the view that the future is incredibly bright for the burgeoning Aarons, with manager David Wagner saying earlier this year:

"He likes to add new ideas to his game and this means you have more or less everything to make a top career. I'm excited to help him make the next steps."

It isn't just his manager, though, as Rio Ferdinand, one of the league's greatest-ever defenders, was full of praise for the youngster, saying on his YouTube channel, "he has got huge potential."

So the statistics might paint a picture of similar abilities at this moment in time, but with the right coaching and experience, Aarons could explode in the coming seasons, and therefore, sadly, spelling the end for Tete's Fulham career.

Moyes Could Land Benrahma Upgrade In £40m Top Player

Leicester City's relegation from the Premier League will see plenty of big names plying their trade in the Championship next season, but others are expected to be given a lifeline.

That is a category Harvey Barnes will likely fall into, with the one-cap England international showing enough during his time in the top flight to suggest he deserves to stay there.

With money to play with ahead of Declan Rice's seemingly imminent big-money move away, West Ham United have a number of targets to potentially go for.

According to The Telegraph, West Ham are expected to start the bidding for Barnes at around £30m, though it may take as much as £40m to prise him away from Leicester.

With two years to run on his contract, and other clubs showing an interest, the Foxes have some bargaining power when it comes to negotiating a fee for the Burnley-born winger.

What can Harvey Barnes offer West Ham?

Barnes led the scoring charts for Leicester last season with 13 goals in the Premier League – plus one assist – yet that was not enough to keep the Foxes above the dotted line.

It marks the first time the 25-year-old has hit double figures for top-flight goals in what was his sixth season at that level, with his return of 0.43 goals per 90 minutes last season the 18th best of all Premier League players, as per FBref.

That may not sound exciting enough to justify a possible £40m outlay, but to put that into some perspective, you have to go much further down that list to find West Ham's highest-ranked player – Manuel Lanzini with 0.36.

Said-Benrahma-scoring-for-West-Ham

Gianluca Scamacca, who failed to make the impression expected of him in his first season at the London Stadium, averaged 0.29 goals per 90 minutes and third on the list was Said Benrahma (0.26), who Barnes may well replace next season.

On the face of it, that would be a clear upgrade for David Moyes' side. Barnes not only outperformed Benrahma in terms of goals and assists combined (0.46 per 90 minutes compared to 0.39), he also came out on top in metrics such as shots on target percentage (47.2 v 33.3) and goal-creating actions (0.47 v 0.22), with the latter taking factors such as passes, take-ons and fouls won leading to goals into the equation.

Indeed, when taking the past 12 months into account, Barnes ranks in the top 6% of his positional peers across Europe's top five leagues for non-penalty goals per 90 (0.43), while Benrahma is in the bottom 11% (0.09).

Brendan Rodgers was correct two years ago when he described Barnes as being someone with the potential to become a "top player", and there is seemingly still more to come from a player who does not turn 26 until December.

Barnes may not be as strong as Benrahma when it comes to beating an opponent (averaging 0.90 take-ons per 90 minutes to the latter's 2.22), but he wins more aerial duels (0.22 v 0.96), suggesting he can also play a part defensively.

Benrahma will go down in West Ham folklore after netting from the penalty spot in their Europa Conference League final win over Fiorentina, but this summer may be a natural time for the Algerian to depart and make way for a player who has proved he deserves another crack at the Premier League.

Newcastle’s "Quality" £60m Target Is "Aware" Of "Interest"

Newcastle United target Dominik Szoboszlai is “aware” of the “concrete interest” from St. James’ Park, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Who is Dominik Szoboszlai?

The RB Leipzig midfielder first joined Marco Rose’s side back in 2021 from RB Salzburg, who are owned by the same company, and he has since become a regular feature of the first-team, clocking up 91 appearances to date.

The Hungary international was the Bundesliga outfit’s overall second best-performing player with a WhoScored match rating of 7.32 last season, with this impressive form having seen him attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League.

Sky Sports reported in May that the Magpies had sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old twice within the space of a fortnight, and the player himself sparked rumours of a move when responding “next question” after being asked whether he would still be at his club beyond the summer which has now been backed up even further.

Are Newcastle signing Szoboszlai?

Taking to Twitter, Plettenberg now reveals that Szoboszlai does know about the admiration from Newcastle and stated that PIF and Eddie Howe have highlighted him as a primary target for the upcoming window. He wrote:

“News #Szoboszlai: Player is very open to leave RB in summer as he’s aware of the concrete interest from @NUFC as revealed. He’s a top transfer target of #NUFC. Release clause of around €70m (£60m). RB bosses not happy with his latest statements. It’s a question of the price now.”

RB Leipzig midfielderDominik Szoboszlai.

Could Szoboszlai be a good signing for Howe?

Newcastle are clearly serious about landing Szoboszlai having already deployed chiefs to assess him on multiple occasions, and having been hailed a “pure quality” player by talent scout Jacek Kulig, it would be a massive coup should the board be able to bring him to the northeast.

RB Leipzig’s attacking midfielder posted 14 goal contributions (eight assists and six goals) in 31 Bundesliga appearances last season, form which saw him receive four man-of-the-match awards, but he also excelled even when the ball didn’t hit the back of the net.

The EM Sports Consulting client recorded 150 shot-creating actions which was higher than any of his fellow teammates, and 117 crosses which was the second-biggest total throughout his squad, as per FBRef.

Finally, Szoboszlai is a versatile operator having played in seven different positions across the grass since first bursting onto the professional scene which will no doubt be yet another attractive attribute to the boss, making him the perfect central candidate to put pen to paper at St. James’ Park.
