Spurs fans react as Dennis Cirkin report emerges

One Tottenham Hotspur academy player is set to be promoted to the first-team next season after impressing Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff, and fans have been reacting to the news on social media this week.

According to Football Insider, the Spurs hierarchy view Dennis Cirkin as a future star, one that can save them millions in the transfer market.

It is thought that the 18-year-old had been making huge strides on the training pitch before injury curtailed his chances in February.

The young left-back is set to compete alongside Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon whenever the new campaign gets underway. Cirkin is yet to make his senior debut, but has featured on the bench in two FA Cup matches this term.

West Ham’s troubles wouldn’t be as bad if they had Adrian, according to Roshane Thomas

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Roshane Thomas, of The Athletic, has been speaking about West Ham United’s goalkeeper situation, following the 3-0 loss against Burnley.

What did he say?

Roberto made another big mistake against Burnley when he attempted to punch away a corner, seeing the ball spin off his fist and over the line.

The goalkeeping situation is beginning to severely cost the Hammers, as they have now gone on a run of seven games without a victory in all competitions – with Roberto making a number of questionable saves during that time.

During a Q&A on The Athletic, one fan put it to Thomas that Roberto should be dropped and that Adrian was never adequately replaced, to which he replied: “Yep, I also think Martin should start the next game. Roberto was very poor today. He’s yet to keep clean sheet in the Premier League. Pellegrini pretty much refused to talk about his performance.

“I don’t think the situation would be this bad if Adrian was still the club’s second-choice goalkeeper.”

Hard to argue

Adrian definitely would have been able to help the Hammers’ situation because Roberto’s frailties have been a big reason behind them, with fans having shown their frustrations towards him.

A contrast between Roberto and his fellow Spaniard shows just how bad a deal West Ham set out for themselves during the summer.

Adrian played an important part in Liverpool’s UEFA Super Cup win, saving Tammy Abraham’s penalty shootout, with only 1 of his 11 appearances this campaign ending in a loss.

He has also become a surprisingly popular figure at Anfield, which cannot be said for the Hammers’ back-up goalkeeper based on reactions to yesterday’s performance.

The 32-year-old also impressed Garth Crooks when featuring against Burnley, as he was quoted on BBC Sport as saying: “The relationship between the Liverpool back four and stand-in keeper Adrian has had its good and bad moments.”

“Adrian’s performance against Burnley, however, was about as good as it gets. The Spanish keeper made a superb save from Chris Wood at a critical time in the first half, while his defensive unit made sure Adrian was not required to come to their rescue thereafter.”

The Hammers certainly miss the stopper, but will need to find a solution to the issue if they are to pick up points while Lukasz Fabianski is out injured. That may well come in the form of David Martin, the current third-choice, starting between the sticks next time out.

Arsenal fans fuming with links to Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo

So after a miserable opening to the current campaign, it appears Unai Emery’s misery may be finally coming to an end.

Following a series of poor results, Arsenal find themselves in eighth in the Premier League table, and are already eight points off the top four.

Reports in recent weeks had suggested that Emery may have just a month to save his job, but it now appears it could be far sooner than that.

According to The Daily Mail, the Gunners have set their sights on Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager, with the north London side’s hierarchy impressed by what the Portuguese man has done in his time at Molineux.

The report further claims that Nuno’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has particularly close ties with Raul Sanllehi, and that could prove to be decisive.

After hearing their links with the Wolves manager, Arsenal fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on their potential Emery replacement.

Many Gunners supporters insisted he simply isn’t good enough to manage a club like Arsenal, and revealed they are feeling particularly underwhelmed by the reports.

Tottenham defender Ben Davies garners mixed reaction from Wales fans

Loads of Wales fans on Twitter appear to be split on Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies following his performance in his nation’s 1-1 draw against Slovakia on Thursday night.

Ryan Giggs’ men would have been looking to pick up a win in Trnava to boost their chances of qualifying for EURO 2020, and they made a good start following Kieffer Moore’s first-half goal.

However, the visitors conceded just eight minutes after the break and the initial play leading up to the goal came down Davies’ side, although it would probably be unfair to blame the left-back for the subsequent series of events.

The 26-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by in the Premier League for Spurs this season, featuring for just 106 minutes according to Transfermarkt – 90 of which came in the defeat against Brighton.

Wales supporters certainly appear undecided on the former Swansea City man’s most recent display for his country, with one individual labelling him as “outstanding”, and another saying he is “so, so average”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Tottenham fans react to Marcus Edwards’ goal against Arsenal

Tottenham fans got a pleasant surprise in the Europa League fixture between Arsenal and Vitória de Guimarães as former player Marcus Edwards fired the visitors ahead at the Emirates.

The 20-year-old came through the academy at Spurs and was a highly-rated youngster, with Mauricio Pochettino once comparing him to Lionel Messi, but he didn’t make the most of his potential and was subsequently shipped out to the Portuguese side in September.

However, he showed great skill and composure to tuck the ball under Bernd Leno and his goal has sparked predicted elation amongst many Tottenham supporters.

Some are pleased one of their own academy graduates got the better of a fierce rival, whilst others have hoped that Daniel Levy included a buy-back clause in the deal which saw him depart.

Comparisons have also been made to Aaron Lennon – who scored the famous equaliser at the ground in the 2008 4-4 draw – as well as Serge Gnabry, the former Gunner who put four past Hugo Lloris for Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Edwards’ goal is seen as them getting their own back on their rivals, though Arsenal did go on to win.

Here are some of the reactions to the midfielder’s strike…

Tottenham would be wise to cash in on Christian Eriksen in January

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Spanish publication Marca, Christian Eriksen has “rejected every contract offer” Tottenham have offered him, and is waiting for a call from Real Madrid.

What’s the word?

The Denmark international saw his name linked with a move away from Spurs all summer, and reports in the closing stages of the transfer window had suggested Manchester United were eyeing up a potential swoop.

However, it was then claimed Eriksen has his heart set on a future transfer to Madrid, and Marca now back that, saying the 27-year-old is “hoping” the Spanish side come back in for him.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The report adds the playmaker’s lawyers are making phone calls to clubs across Europe, with the Dane free to talk to clubs in January over a free transfer in the summer.

Cash in

Since his arrival from Ajax a few years ago, Eriksen has proven his quality in English football year-in and year-out. The 27-year-old has amassed 67 goals and 86 assists in 281 games for the north London side, and is a key performer for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

However, the Spurs boss’ comments in recent weeks have acted as an eye-opener. The Argentine publicly admitted that players like Eriksen were distracted over their futures being uncertain at the club, and all the transfer talk surrounding them was having a negative impact.

Whilst Pochettino has now insisted the squad have been able to re-focus, those previous issues are simply going to resurface in a couple of months time when the January transfer window rolls around. At that point, Spurs really will be left with a major conundrum. They only have to look at their bitter rivals Arsenal and see the kind of perilous situation the team can be in when key stars could be set to depart.

If Spurs can’t convince Eriksen to sign a new deal before January, it would be in their best interests to simply sell him. No waiting around or hoping, but acting decisively to ensure the squad knows where they stand and to prevent the catastrophe of losing him for free in the summer.

Manchester United fans react to Aaron Wan-Bissaka injury news

[ad_pod ]

Well, that’s not good news, is it?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has pulled out of the England squad due to injury.

The Manchester United defender was set to compete alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier for a spot in the team to face Bulgaria and Kosovo in the next round of European qualifiers, but it was recently announced that his international escapades have come to a premature end following complications with his back (cue jokes about carrying United).

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Whether this is a covert and cynical ploy to remove him from harm remains to be seen. However, if it’s a case of Wan-Bissaka’s injury being both serious and genuine, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a serious selection dilemma ahead of the upcoming game against top-four hopefuls Leicester City – auxiliary right-back Ashley Young is already covering an injured Luke Shaw on the opposite flank having featured against Southampton at the weekend.

United fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news…

As you can see the United faithful are somewhat sceptical about the genuineness of the claims. Is this an elaborate ‘sicky’ orchestrated by Solskjaer? We’ll have to wait and see (sounds convenient though, doesn’t it? A “back injury” yeah, yeah).

Liverpool’s Wijnaldum shows a great attitude with Instagram post after Napoli loss

Wijnaldum is spot on in his summary of the result on Tuesday night.

Liverpool can’t do anything about the loss at Stadio San Paolo, but what they can do is stick together and work on making things right going forward.

That starts with a tough game against Chelsea this weekend, but if Jurgen Klopp’s side win against the Blues, their loss to Napoli will be all but forgotten.

Luckily for Wijnaldum, his team have previously shown that they have the mental grit required to bounce back from these types of disappointments.

Manchester United relying on Scott McTominay to have stand-out season after no midfield signings

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Despite the high-profile departures of both Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini in recent transfer windows, Manchester United have done little to replace some of the players they have lost in midfield. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has publicly insisted he trusts in the club’s youth talents to make the step up to the first-team, and one man who the Red Devils will heavily rely upon to have an impressive campaign, is Scott McTominay.

The 22-year-old has played in a variety of positions for the club since making his senior debut, and that has cost him more than anything. Versatility is often a desired trait in players, but it can also lead to a case of not knowing where your strongest role is. McTominay has played across most midfield positions, but this season United will surely need him to nail down a spot.

[ad_pod ]

Solskjaer has used the Scot as part of a deeper-lying midfield two in pre-season, and his energy and industry is something United desperately need. In the high-intensity game the side are looking to implement, McTominay’s role in closing down opposition players and shielding the back four will be crucial.

Whilst much of the criticism when a goal gets conceded is aimed at either the defenders or the goalkeeper, the protection in front of them also needs to be scrutinised. If, as pre-season indicates, McTominay plays alongside Paul Pogba in a midfield two, then it will be the former who has to retain some defensive responsibility. At 22, McTominay is no longer at an age where mistakes or bad performances can be put down to inexperience.

After a summer where the club failed to land its midfield targets, it will be up to McTominay to really step his game up and show that serious progress is being made.
